Purple rice or white rice sushi?

I recently went to Koja Restaurant (120 Atlantic Ave) and was pleasantly surprised when there was purple rice (also known as black rice) on the menu. So to try something different and be healthier we gave purple rice a try.

When the waiter brought us our orders I must say it looked a bit weird. Being used to white rice sushi, the purple gave it a peculiar look. But once I tried the purple rice…the white rice became a distant memory.

The purple rice I found to be stickier and a bit nuttier in taste. Sticker is a definite plus for me as I found it kept the sushi from breaking on the way from the dish to my mouth – a good thing especially when you are eating out in public!

Purple rice has all the health benefits of brown rice but is also super rich in antioxidants…yup good and good for you!

Long story short, I have totally converted to purple rice!

PS: Just like the sushi, the rest of the menu at Koja is spectacular! Just look at the Wonton soup.
