Remember last winter? Long, snow, long, more snow. My
husband and I had sunk into a winter slump, so we decided to do something new
and fun – take hip hop classes! Yup that’s right we beat the winter blues with
a little hip hop :)
We found this cool studio on 489 Queen St West called City
Dance Corps and decided to give it a try. We took advantage of their $50 for
two weeks unlimited drop in classes for newbies.
We focused on trying out their hip hop classes for beginners.
At first it was quite funny and a bit embarrassing to be in an actual dance
studio with a huge mirror staring back at you and having all these people watch
how you attempted to dance. But after a while we realized that everyone was
there to learn and have fun, and that helped us forget about looking silly and
just go with the flow.
The instructors, man are they talented! And patient. The
first half of each hip hop class was generally free flowing and you mainly practiced moves that the instructor would show. The second half was focused on learning a
choreography, which was actually a lot of fun, and the music
was awesome!
By the end of the class you find yourself looking in the
mirror and saying wow is that me or BeyoncĂ©? Ok I’m exaggerating a little but
you definitely start gaining more confidence on the dance floor!
A lot of fun if you want to try it solo, with a partner or
with a group of friends!
