My husband and I have had Sake many times, both hot and cold. But we were not quite sure how Sake was made, so we found out! We found a place in the Distillery District called Izumi @OntarioSake (Ontario Spring Water Sake). For $15 we got to see the machinery and also got to hear from the experts about the process of making Sake – and boy is it a long process!
The best part - getting to taste four different types of Sake! The tour guide brings everyone a little Sake cup as shown in the picture, and he explains the ingredients each is made with.
My advice: eat something before going on the tour, cause I didn’t and I walked out of there pretty dizzy. Mind you it doesn’t take much to make me a tad dizzy…
I gotta say my favourite Sake was the Nama Nama, fruity and more on the lighter side.
At Izumi, you can buy all different varieties of Sake, as well as Sake ceramic ware and glassware. You can also pick up Sake Kasu soap…which is one of the best moisturizing soaps I’ve ever tried!
Verdict: Definitely worth the $15!
PS: Call Izumi to book your tour before heading over, and remember you have to be +19!
